Short answer: to increase eBay sales, optimise titles and item specifics for eBay’s Cassini search, price competitively including shipping, use high-quality photos, offer free or fast delivery and returns, run Promoted Listings on your best sellers, and keep Top Rated Seller metrics. Sellers who fix titles and item specifics alone often see more impressions within weeks.
Slow eBay sales are rarely about the platform being “dead”. In most accounts we audit, the problem is visibility: incomplete listings, uncompetitive delivery or poor seller metrics. Ecomalign has managed eBay stores for UK and US sellers since 2020. These are the 12 fixes we apply first.
Why are my eBay sales so slow?
The usual causes are listings Cassini cannot match to searches, prices above the market once postage is added, slow handling times, a below-standard seller level, and seasonal dips. Start with the Seller Hub “Traffic” report: low impressions means a visibility problem; high impressions but few clicks means a title, image or price problem; clicks with few sales means a trust or listing-content problem.

1. Research what actually sells
Use eBay’s sold-listings filter and Terapeak (free in Seller Hub) to see sell-through rate and average sold price. Prioritise products with a sell-through rate above 50%.
2. Write titles for search, not style
Use all 80 characters. Follow a simple structure: brand + product type + model + key specs (size, colour, capacity) + condition. Skip words like “wow”, “L@@K” or “amazing” — buyers never search for them.
3. Fill every item specific
Item specifics feed search filters. A listing missing “Size” or “Colour” disappears when a buyer applies that filter. Complete all required and recommended specifics.
4. Use 12+ clear photos
Shoot on a plain white or light background, at least 500 px (1,600 px is better for zoom). Show every angle, labels, flaws and scale. The first photo decides the click.
5. Price with the total cost in mind
Buyers compare item price plus postage. Check the five cheapest comparable sold listings and price within that range. Use Best Offer with an auto-accept floor to catch hesitant buyers.
6. Offer free or fast delivery and easy returns
Free postage and 1-day handling improve search placement and conversion. 30-day returns are one of the Top Rated Plus requirements, and free returns lift buyer confidence.
7. Run Promoted Listings on proven products
Promoted Listings General (cost per sale) charges an ad fee only when a sale is attributed to your ad. Start near eBay’s suggested rate on products with good conversion, then lower the rate where sales hold. Exclude low-margin items.
8. Earn Top Rated Seller status
Top Rated status brings search priority and, with Top Rated Plus listings, a fee discount. Keep defect rates, late shipment rates and cases closed without resolution under eBay’s thresholds and upload tracking on time.
9. Use markdown sales and volume pricing
Scheduled markdown events and multi-buy discounts (for example, “buy 2, save 10%”) increase average order value and give Cassini a fresh signal.
10. Open an eBay Store when the numbers work
In the US, a Store subscription lowers final value fees in many categories and adds free listings. In the UK, a Shop adds listing allowance and branding but does not reduce the final value fee. Do the break-even before subscribing.
11. Answer messages fast and protect feedback
Reply within 24 hours, ship what you promise and solve problems before a case opens. One negative review on a new listing can halve its conversion.
12. Know your fees so pricing stays profitable
Fees changed in 2026. From 12 February 2026, eBay UK raised the per-order fee on business-seller orders over £10 from £0.30 to £0.40 and lifted final value fees in selected categories (eBay UK Seller Centre announcement). On eBay.com, the final value fee for most categories is 13.6% of the total sale up to $7,500, plus $0.30–$0.40 per order (eBay US fee schedule).
| Marketplace | Final value fee (most categories) | Per-order fee |
|---|---|---|
| eBay.com (US) | 13.6% of total sale up to $7,500 | $0.30 (≤$10) / $0.40 (>$10) |
| eBay.co.uk (business) | Category-based; selected rises Feb 2026 | £0.30 (≤£10) / £0.40 (>£10) |
| eBay.co.uk (private) | No final value fee | — |

FAQ
How can I increase my eBay sales fast?
Fix titles and item specifics, match competitor pricing including postage, and promote your top 10 converting listings. These three changes usually move impressions within 1–3 weeks.
Does relisting items help on eBay?
Sometimes. Ending and relisting a stale listing with an improved title and photos can refresh visibility, but you lose its sales history. Revise first; relist only listings with zero watchers and sales.
What is a good sell-through rate on eBay?
Above 50% is strong; under 20% usually means the price or demand is wrong.
Do Promoted Listings really work?
Yes, for listings that already convert. Ads amplify a good listing; they do not fix a weak one.
How many items should I list to make sales on eBay?
There is no fixed number, but more well-optimised listings create more entry points. Most growing stores add new listings weekly.
